2-DAY WORKSHOP IN NYC

Hempcrete is a composite construction material made from the chopped up woody part of the hemp plant and mixed with a lime-based binder. It can be cast into a timber frame on site, or pre-cast blocks can be used to form perimeter and interior walls.

Learn the fundamentals of construction with hempcrete in this 2-day weekend workshop.

Together, we will trial hempcrete’s thermal properties in an actual retrofit project, constructing a hemp block insulating wall in an historic townhouse in the West Village.

In addition to presenations, we’ll work in small groups and get our hands dirty laying out blocks, troweling lime mortar, mixing lime binder with hemp hurd, and hand-casting hempcrete. As a bonus, you will also learn about hempwool batts; where and when to use them and how to cut and install them.

The workshop will be led by HempStone personnel – Tom Rossmassler as instructor and Navid Hatfield as assistant. With a maximum of 12 participants, everyone will be able to dig in and gain practical experience.
